The USAID Feed the Future Food Security Policy Innovation Lab (FSP) seeks to promote inclusive agricultural productivity growth, better nutritional outcomes, and strengthened livelihood resilience through enhanced policy environments. On 18-22 April 2016, IFPRI and the University of Pretoria colleagues conducted a training workshop with members of the Malawi food security and nutrition media network in Blantyre in partnership with the New Alliance Policy Acceleration Support in Malawi (NAPAS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development.
The training workshop -- part of an ongoing effort to engage with the media -- aimed to strengthen the abilities of media to communicate agricultural, food security and nutrition policy issues meaningfully to different interest groups and to enhance the impact policies and programs. Helping the media to convey technical and policy information on important topics through sound reporting is expected to contribute to leveraging policy change in Malawi. The training specifically draws on a product of the FSP Innovation Lab, namely the kaleidoscope model for food security.
