Central to IFPRI's Strategy Support Program in Malawi is close coordination with the Malawian government, particularly the Department of Agricultural Planning Services (DAPS) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development (MoAIWD). We support them in achieving the country’s food security and poverty reduction goals.
Today, IFPRI Malawi's Program Leader, Bob Baulch, visited MoAIWD to hand off a set of laptop computers as part of IFPRI's efforts to support our government counterparts and strengthen capacity within the Ministry. The computers were well received by Alex Namona, Director of DAPS, and Nelson Mataka, former head of the Agriculture Sector Wide Approach program (ASWAp).
While IFPRI's capacity strengthening efforts usually take the form of technical and analytical inputs -- such as new studies and evidence demonstrating what works in the agricultural sector-- support is also provided via in-kind resources, technology, and tools which can help get the job done and enable key decision makers to guide progress in Malawi.
