IFPRI will host a dissemination workshop on the Virtuous Food Security-Energy-Water Nexus in Malawi, at the Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Mid-term results will be presented from the project “Policies and institutions for achieving the virtuous Food Security-Energy-Water Nexus in sub-Saharan Africa: The case of Malawi”. The project is a joint initiative of IFPRI, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development (MoAIWD), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), and University of Hohenheim, Germany.
The workshop will bring together policy makers, donors, NGOs, researchers, academicians and other stakeholders working in food security, energy, and water sectors to deliberate on policy issues. The goal is to look at the inter-linkages of the sectors and discuss system-efficient policy solutions, which are often ignored or overlooked in high level forums. We are honored to have Mrs. Erica Maganga, Principal Secretary for MoAIWD, open the workshop proceedings.
The project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, has investigated various nexus interventions (e.g. fuel efficient cook stoves, irrigation and conditional input subsidies) from a micro and macroeconomic perspective in Malawi for one and a half years.
