“Unleashing the full potential of agriculture: the role of markets.” This was the theme for Malawi's recently concluded 15th National Agriculture Fair, held in thee country's commerce city, Blantyre, from September 12-15th.
The event drew participants from all over the country to engage and share agricultural technologies innovations and successes - particularly related to growing Malawi's untapped value chains and agricultural opportunities- through product displays, interactive stalls, and a range of side events.
IFPRI Malawi was represented at the fair by a delegation including Bob Baulch, program leader, Cynthia Kazembe, communications and research assistant, and Edwin Kenamu, research analyst. The IFPRI Malawi booth presented a range of recent policy and research outputs, videos, and communications products. Over the course of the event, the IFPRI team welcomed nearly 500 visitors to its stall.
The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Water Development (MoAIWD) and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI). It was officially kicked off with a formal opening by His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of Malawi, who offered a call for Malawians to add value to their agricultural products.
