The African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) is considered the world’s most important and impactful forum for African agriculture, pulling together stakeholders in the agricultural landscape to take practical actions and share lessons that will move African agriculture forward.
Following a three-year series of African Green Revolution Conferences (AGRC) held in Oslo, Norway from 2006–2008, the forum was formally established in 2010. Each year, the AGRF is held in a different African country, but always under the leadership of the head of state of the hosting nation. The AGRF has emerged as Africa’s leading “platform of agriculture platforms” that brings together a range of key stakeholders in the African agriculture landscape to discuss and commit to programs, investments, and policies that can counter the major challenges affecting the agriculture sector on the continent. The AGRF Secretariat is hosted by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) in Nairobi. AGRA itself is a member and an African-led institution focused on putting farmers at the center of our continent’s growing economies.
The theme of the 2019 AGRF is Grow Digital – Leveraging Digital Transformation to Drive Sustainable Food Systems in Africa. It will be held from September 3–6 in Accra, Ghana. The event will bring together more than 2,000 delegates and high-level dignitaries from around the world. With over 300 speakers the AGRF will offer an opportunity to seize the momentum to highlight the importance of agricultural mechanization in Africa, a continent that has overall experienced strong economic growth and rapid urbanization. IFPRI's Director General Dr Shenggen Fan as well as Dr Ousmane Badiane, IFPRI's Director for Africa, will be two of the speakers at the Forum.
