The Monthly Maize Market Reports are developed by researchers at IFPRI Malawi, with the main goal of providing clear and accurate daily maize price data in selected markets throughout Malawi. The reports are intended as a resource for those interested in maize markets in Malawi, namely producers, traders, consumers, or other agricultural stakeholders.
Highlights
- Retail prices of maize increased by 1 percent in September.
- Maize prices were highest but relatively stable in the Southern region, while steadily increasing in the Central region and declining in the Northern region.
- ADMARC sales were reported in 13 of 26 markets monitored by IFPRI, mostly in the Southern region.
- Retail prices of maize in Malawi were higher than in South Africa, and Mozambique at both the market and official exchange rate, and lower than Zambia at the market exchange rate, used for most trade.
