Lara Cockx is a Research Fellow with the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. Prior to joining IFPRI, Lara was a Research Fellow at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Spain where she studied different aspects of food systems in West Africa. She holds a PhD in Economics from KU Leuven in Belgium and previously held the position of Assistant Professor of Economics at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan. Lara is an applied micro economist with research interests in development and agricultural economics. Much of her work focuses on food consumption and nutrition with specific attention to how the environment in which people reside shapes their diets and nutrition outcomes. As the majority of her work relies on household survey data, she also has a keen interest in survey design.
